Dressin' it up!

So unlike many brides my hunt for the perfect dress was short and sweet. Not to brag, I was completely clueless going into it and only had the theme of our wedding in mind to work with.

I tried to start simple with my hunt for the perfect gown. So I made a list of attributes that this dress that I shall forever have to look back at should have. I knew I wanted to be able to dance…. a lot. Which considering that and our rockabilly theme, a traditional drag the floor type dress wouldn’t work. My next mission was to look at the type of straps and other accents that would fit this kind of theme. With these ideas in mind I began at David’s Bridal, thinking I would just use them as a stepping stone to finding someone else to make my dress. Now as I’m looking through these dresses I’m not seeing anything that’s screaming “pick me!” So for shits and grins (and being the cheapy that I am) I click the big red sale button. As I’m browsing through I stumble on a dress that would be absolutely perfect (and it’s on clearance for $100). Now my first instinct is that they won’t have it in my size because that’s just how it usually goes but I decide to take a closer look anyway and to my absolute amazement they have it available in my size! I ordered it on the spot. And tada! Here it is:

Now being the “individual” that I am, I have also planned on adding my own beading to whatever gown made the cut. Currently I’m devising a plan to stencil a design on my dress and put some red accents on it. I will keep you all updated as I and my crafty mother make progress on that front and will put up instructions on how you can do it too!

Finally to top off the ensemble comes the veil. Now during my research of all weddings vintage, I fell in love with birdcage veils. I came across a fairly local company that has a webpage at www.birdcageveils.com and found one that I absolutely loved. The only problem was my budget. So I at first was just going to make one on my own to keep the costs down….until I had dinner with my mom the other night. She offered to pay for the one I really wanted! Not having expected either side to help us with the wedding this came as a complete shock and a blessing. The veil and fascinator I decided on are picture below:

Wedding Planning 101

Hello and welcome to my wedding blog! Over the next year, I'll be documenting my experience planning my wedding. Hopefully it will be able to give you some insight into what to expect and provide you with some helpful information when planning your own special day.

So here I am nearly a month after my engagement and my wedding plans for the most part seem to be going smoothly. Don't get me wrong we have had our fair share of panic (mostly over trying to find a venue) but seeing as it is a little less than a year away, we have plenty of time to get things finalized, so I hope.

Our planning started off very well. Luckily my fiance and I have very similar ideas as to what our day is going to be like. Which brings me to something I feel is important. I feel that weddings have been thought of too much as the bride's day. It is just as much about the groom as the bride in my opinion. Your love for each other is the reason for the marriage and that should never be overlooked!

As far as our plans go, our wedding will definately be as off beat as they come. We've decided to make the wedding itself Rockabilly themed and our reception is going to have an arcade theme to it. The entire thing will have an abundance of Star Wars references, some 8bit Nintendo nostalgia and Harry Potter references. All of this still in formal attire (minus the Chuck Taylors the wedding party will be wearing).

As my adventure goes along I will be updating my blog while we do things like get our rings made and sized, have our engagement party, meet with vendors and many many other things that come along with a wedding. So stay tuned
